Mid FaceLift

Mid FaceLift

The part of the face from the eyes downwards (mid face) is prone to the effects of time and gravity and has the tendency to drop. As a result, the cheeks are looking saggy, the lines between the nose and the mouth (nasomalar groove) appear deeper and in general the entire face looks tired and aged. Apart from the effects of time, an important factor in mid face laxity is heredity. This is why signs of mid face laxity are evident in people of a younger age.

However, in Athens Beverly Hills Medical Group we can now fix the problem easily and promptly using the mid face lift technique, which, as implied by its name, is applied on the mid section of the face. The same technique is also called “star lift”, as it is very popular among Hollywood stars. This method achieves mid face lifting and creates a firm and young-looking face by shortening the distance between the lower eyelid and the malar area, raising the nasomalar folds and slightly lifting the mouth angle. By reversing the saggy appearance of the face the patient gets a younger look.

Frequent Questions

Any man or woman who develops signs of face laxity but whose skin preserves its elasticity around the neck and the contour of the face, is considered an ideal candidate. By this we mean that there is no need to let our face undergo an immense deterioration before rushing to the plastic surgeon. This is why more and more young people come to the plastic surgeon for a mid face lift. They are also the best candidates. If you are seeing the first signs of face laxity and if “bags” are forming under your eyes and your cheeks are saggy, then you may proceed with a mid face lift.

The best time to do this is when you feel ready and of course when your doctor approves your decision.

The prerequisite for a smoker to be submitted to the particular surgical procedure is to refrain from smoking for at least 3 – 4 weeks before and after the operation.

The plastic surgeon will perform the mid face lift mainly to restore the natural curves of the face to their previous position without leaving any visible scars on the face. The surgeon will raise the skin to meet the bone structure of the face thus undoing the effects of gravity and time damage. The result must be natural and, although the patient will get a more “fresh” look, his or her facial features will remain unchanged.

The new techniques that Dr. Athanasiou uses at Athens Beverly Hills Medical Group ensure a more natural result that is fully anticipated and can be delivered in less time.

When performing a mid-face lift the plastic surgeon is called to choose between two techniques depending on the needs of the patient’s face: a) the technique that allows access from the lower eyelid to the mid face, b) the technique during which access is achieved through the mouth with two small endoscopic incisions. Tissue lifting is performed on the temporal area, behind the hair line with no visible marks. This is how a scar-free face lift is achieved.

24-hour hospitalisation is advised both for precautionary reasons and for better post-operative monitoring.

New methods used in mid face lift are of minimum invasion and cause minimum trauma. This results in far less chances of any post-operative complication. The patient may experience slight discomfort (tightness or light swelling) which will subside after a short while.

Several patients combine the mid face lift with a neck lift, a blepharoplasty or a simultaneous brow lift.

Scars are very small (approximately 1cm) and are made inside the hair so that they remain hidden. After a while you too will not be able to see them.

This particular procedure is almost painless; the patient feels no pain both during and after the operation. You might experience a slight discomfort on the lower part of the face but this will subside after a few days. If the doctor things it is necessary, he may prescribe some light painkillers.

Thanks to modern atraumatic techniques, this procedure is performed with local anaesthesia and the patient may soon resume daily activities. Any ecchymosis and oedemas will gradually subside within 15 to 30 days following the procedure. You must simply be careful with your face and hair for a few days after surgery and avoid intense activity for two weeks. As with every surgical procedure, it is wise to allow yourself some recovery time and avoid extra activities.

The duration of the result depends on the surgical technique as well as on the patient’s skin and tissue quality, his exposure to solar radiation, smoking, significant weight fluctuations, etc. However, following the procedure, the pace of aging of the face slows down.

The cost of a mid-face lift is determined during the visit to the doctor and depends on the surgical technique to be selected and the needs of the patient’s face (bags under the eyes, visible nasal lines etc). It includes all expenses (lab tests, doctors’ fees, OR cost, hospitalization and materials cost; post-operative care) except further hospitalisation in case the patient wishes to extend his/her stay.
