Brow Lift

Brow Lift

A brow lift does not only make the first signs of aging disappear; it can also completely change the facial expression for the better.

The brow lift is one of the simplest procedures that can immediately change the expression of a face, making the area around the eyes – the key features of the face- appear younger.

Restructuring –or in fact, lifting- the eyebrows and the forehead will not only make the first signs of aging disappear but will also completely change the facial expression for the better. Most of the times, laxity on the forehead causes the upper eyelids to drop (excess skin), particularly in people who, due to a genetic or hereditary predisposition, have already developed a relevant ptosis of the eyelid. This characteristic gives the face a tired, heavy and often angry look which does not always represent the person’s character. This is why the brow lift is often combined with blepharoplasty for better results.

Dr. Athanasios Athanasiou, plastic surgeon, recommends this procedure to people who wish to take years off their face but also to people who simply wish to correct their expression and get a cleaner and younger look.

Frequent Questions

<p >There are two methods used: the endoscopic brow lift and the open brow technique which involves an incision close to the hairline. Dr. Athanasiou, plastic surgeon, performs the procedure mainly with the use of a special fibre-optic endoscope. I.e., with a camera the size of a pencil and a monitor that allows the doctor to have a clear view of the muscles and tissue under the skin. Incisions are made in the hairline. That way, no sign is left on the face after the procedure. The brow lift is performed either with general anaesthesia or sedation, depending on the needs of the patient. The plastic surgeon actually repositions the muscles of the face thus offering a more relaxed and less wrinkled forehead

No. Scars in the hairline are almost invisible, because incisions are very small.

No, hospitalisation is not necessary. The procedure can be performed both under local anaesthesia and sedation depending on the patient’s needs.

This particular procedure is almost painless; the patient feels no pain both during and after the operation.

All procedures entail a certain amount of risk and their outcome or complications depend on the anatomy and reactions of every patient. Smokers or patients with high blood pressure are considered to be at higher risk. However, if patients follow their doctor’s advice the complications rate will be significantly reduced.

The prerequisite for a smoker to be submitted to the particular surgical procedure is to refrain from smoking for at least 3 – -4 weeks.

Depending on the technique to be used (endoscopic or open brow lift) and given the particular features of each patient, the result is expected to last between 5 to 10 years.

Apart from a few hours of post-operative care, hospitalisation is generally not necessary. However, in some cases the doctor may advice the patient to remain at the hospital longer.

The aesthetic result of this procedure is considered satisfactory when it appears so natural that the plastic surgeon’s intervention is not visible. An experienced doctor will always keep a photo gallery that demonstrates the quality of his work.

The cost of a brow lift varies depending on the method used by the plastic surgeon. The final cost of the brow lift is determined during the visit to the doctor. It includes all expenses (lab tests, doctors’ fees, OR cost, hospitalization and materials cost; post-operative care) except further hospitalisation in case the patient wishes to extend his/her stay.

Yes, you may undergo a simultaneous upper or lower facelift and blepharoplasty.
